Description

Seven days across the high country of western Arunachal Pradesh, starting and ending at Guwahati. The road climbs from the Kameng river valley through Bhalukpong and Tipi to Dirang, then over the 13,700 ft Sela Pass into Tawang.

Tawang itself gets two full days - the monastery, the war memorial, the Giant Buddha statue and the high lakes, with an optional run up to Bum La Pass on the India-China border. The return leg comes back via Bomdila and its monastery before dropping down to Guwahati for Kamakhya Temple and departure.

Itinerary

Pickup from Guwahati airport or railway station and drive to Dirang, approximately 320 km taking 8 to 9 hours, through Bhalukpong, the Tipi Orchid Centre and the Kameng river valley. Check in at Dirang. Overnight stay at Dirang.

Drive to Tawang, approximately 140 km taking 6 to 7 hours, visiting Sela Pass at 13,700 ft, Jaswant Garh War Memorial and Nuranang (Jang) Waterfall on the way. Check in at Tawang. Overnight stay at Tawang.

A full day at Tawang covering Tawang Monastery, Tawang War Memorial, the Giant Buddha Statue, Madhuri Lake (Sangetsar Lake) and PT Tso Lake, subject to permit and weather. Overnight stay at Tawang.

An optional excursion to Bum La Pass on the India-China border, along with Penga Teng Tso Lake, Y Junction and high altitude viewpoints. Bum La sightseeing is subject to army permit and extra vehicle charges. Overnight stay at Tawang.

Drive back via Sela Pass to Bomdila, approximately 175 km taking 7 to 8 hours, with stops at mountain viewpoints and a visit to Bomdila Monastery. Overnight stay at Bomdila.

A scenic drive through the Himalayan foothills to Guwahati, approximately 340 km taking 8 to 9 hours, with an en-route tea garden and local market stop. Check in at Guwahati. Overnight stay at Guwahati.

Kamakhya Temple darshan, followed by Umananda Temple or Fancy Bazaar as time permits, then drop at Guwahati airport or railway station. The tour ends here.
